The average cost for a branded manufacturer to get a new food product on the grocery shelf is estimated at more than $6 million. Cough! But don’t let that discourage your dream of getting your new food product to market. A growing number of successful entrepreneurs are using hard work, tenacity and a creative approach to getting new artisanal food products into the market and onto grocery shelves.

The key is smart planning, creative branding and time. Are you ready to get a new food product into stores?
We can help. »

According to Jill Gifford with the Entreprenual Assistance Program at the University of Nebrasksa Food Processing Center, an aspiring food entrepreneur can get their product to market with as little as $35,000, but should plan between $35k – $100k. That includes product development, brand development and startup costs like package design and product marketing, but doesn’t include the cost of manufacturing the food and/or beverage itself.

While $35,000 is certainly nothing to sneeze at, it’s money well spent if you consider artisan food brand start-up success stories like Bear Naked granola. Owners Kelly Flatley and Brendon Synnott built Bear Naked Granola from $200k in family seed money to a fledgling artisan food brand with $65 million in annual sales in just 5 years. In 2007, Bear Naked was sold to Kellog’s for an undisclosed amount, estimated at $65 million.

We help entrepreneurs develop food and beverage brands and design packaging that moves product from store shelf to customers’ grocery carts. Are you ready to do what it takes to get idea to market? You’re not alone. Contact us for help. »

By: Mark Gerardot

You might be surprised to hear this, especially from a designer. Your new logo design won’t bring you more customers. A clever new tagline won’t bring more visitors to your city.
